Immaculata Softball Earns Split in Doubleheader at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- The Immaculata softball team was back in action as they opened Atlantic East Conference play by visiting Centenary University on Saturday afternoon. Immaculata earned a split in their doubleheader with Centenary taking game one 5-4, before dropping game two 7-2. 

In game one, Immaculata got on the board in the top of the first inning when Sara Rode scored on a passed ball. Unfortunately, the Macs left the bases loaded and took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first inning. 

Centenary would respond in the bottom of the third inning scoring three runs to take a 3-1 lead.  

Immaculata came right back in the top of the fourth inning to score four runs to take a 5-3 lead. Alyssa Daly singled to center scoring Peyton McGowan. Kaitlyn Carter scored on a groundout to shortstop by Kristin Carter. Bryele Anthony followed with a single to center to score Alyssa Daly, and then Anthony scored on a single to center by Sara Rode

Centenary would score a run in the top of the seventh inning to close Immaculata's lead to 5-4, by pitcher Courtney Gable was able to close out the win for Immaculata.  

On the offensive side, Bryele Anthony, Sara Rode, Alyssa Daly, and Kristin Carter all drove in runs for the Macs. Bryele Anthony and Kaitlyn Carter each stole a base for Immaculata. 

Starting pitcher Sarah Guido earned the win allowing six hits and three runs all earned. Courtney Gable came on in relief allowing five hits and one earned run. 

In game two, Immaculata once again got on the board during the top of the first inning as Jess Oldham singled to center to score Bryele Anthony.  

Centenary came back with a run in the bottom of the second inning to even the score at 1-1. 

Immaculata would re-take the lead in the top of the third when Carlee Karcher singled to right field to score Bryele Anthony.  

Centenary would come right back in the bottom of the third scoring a pair of runs to take a 3-2 lead, and chase starting pitcher Riece Onorato. Emma Mercadante came on in relief to get the final out of the inning. 

Centenary would put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth, as they scored four runs to take a 7-2 lead and close out the win. 

Bryele Anthony led the Macs offensively going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. Jess Oldham went 3-for-4 at the plate and had one RBI. Carlee Karcher was 1-for-3 with an RBI. 

Riece Onorato took the loss going into two and two thirds' innings allowing two hits and three runs all earned. Emma Mercadante went three and one-third innings in relief allowing two hits and three earned runs.  

The Immaculata softball team (5-3, 1-1, Atlantic East) will be back in action on Monday, March 20th when they travel to Stockton for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 PM.
