Mighty Macs Defeat Cabrini Behind Strong Defensive Effort

RADNOR, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort to earn a hard-fought come from behind win against Cabrini on Wednesday night 53-50. 

The Mighty Macs were led by Morgan Falcone who scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Abigail Lentowski scored 11 points, and Kaitlyn Racobaldo scored 10 points for the Macs. Reese Mullins scored eight points and contributed eight rebounds and three steals. Abigail Boyer turned in an impressive performance for Immaculata. 

In the first quarter, the game started slowly as the teams worked to get a hold of the game. Cabrini took an early 3-0 lead. Immaculata finally broke through at 7:43 on a three-pointer by Morgan Falcone to tie the score at 3-3. Cabrini would use a 10-0 run to go 13-3. Immaculata would use a basket and a pair of free throws from Abigail Lentowski to close the score to 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.  

In the second quarter, Cabrini scored the first seven points to take a 20-7 lead. Immaculata responded with tough defense and began chipping away at the lead. Morgan Falcone hit a three-pointer to close the Cabrini lead to 20-16 with 4:33 remaining in the quarter. Kaitlyn Racobaldo scored on a layup and followed that with a long jumper, and Abigail Lentowski scored a late layup as the half ended with Cabrini leading 24-22. 

Morgan Falcone and Abigail Lentowski led the Macs in the first half, each scoring eight points. Erin Kelly pulled down four rebounds in the first half for Immaculata. 

In the third quarter, Morgan Falcone scored early to get Immaculata started. Reese Mullins and Kaitlyn Racobaldo followed to tie the score at 28-28 and forced a Cabrini timeout. Immaculata would get back-to-back three-pointers from Abigail Lentowski and Morgan Falcone to take a 34-32 lead with 4:45 remaining in the quarter. Reese Mullins scored on a layup and hit 2 free throws late as Immaculata carried a 38-36 lead into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, Immaculata took a 52-42 lead with 2:20 remaining quarter after getting consecutive three-pointers from Abigail Boyer and Morgan Falcone. Cabrini refused to go quietly, and closed the Macs lead to 52-50 late. Morgan Falcone hit one of two from the stripe to put the Macs up 53-50 with 0:07 remaining. Immaculata closed out the 53-50 win using outstanding defense as Meghan Ricker and Reese Mullins tipped away Cabrini passes late.  

The Immaculata women's basketball team (11-11, 6-4 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Saturday, February 11th when they travel to play at nationally ranked DeSales at 1:00 PM.
