Second Half Surge Leads Macs to Thrilling Comeback Victory over Alvernia

READING,Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team defeated Alvernia University by a score of 73-69 on the road this evening.

The first half was controlled entirely by the Golden Wolves, who outscored the Mighty Macs 19-14 in the first quarter and 22-10 in the second quarter to take a 41-24 halftime lead.

It was a tale of two halves this evening though, as the Mighty Macs started out the second half on fire. Doing everything possible to cut into the deficit out of the break, the Mighty Macs would have seven different players score in the quarter to bring the lead within 3 heading into the fourth quarter.  Immaculata would outscore Alvernia 28-14 in the frame.

The Mighty Macs would keep the momentum going, staying within striking distance the entirety of the final period. A Reese Mullins three pointer would give the Macs their first lead with 1:06 remaining. After trading timeouts to advance the ball, sophomore Francesca Scarpone would step up to the line on consecutive trips and put the game on ice knocking down four foul shots.

Reese Mullins would lead all scorers with 20 points on 80% shooting from the floor, including 100% from beyond the arc on four attempts. Abigail Lentowski would pick up another double-double with 17 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Olivia Ettorre added 10 points for Immaculata in her 5th consecutive start. Scarpone (8) , Morgan Falcone (6), Tessa Liberatoscioli (4), Abigail Boyer (3) , Emma Wagner (3) and Mary deSimone (2) would all score for the Mighty Macs. Liberatoscioli would lead the team with a game high six assists, setting a new career high.

The Immaculata women's basketball returns to action on Thursday, December 14th with a 5:00 PM matchup on the road at Keystone College.
