IMMACULATA,Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team dropped their Atlantic East Conference matchup with Neumann University by a score of 5-3.
Four minutes and thirteen seconds in, Rachel McNamee received a beautiful, lofted assist, that flew right over the defense, to her feet. Drawing the keeper out, McNamee fired a shot into the lower-right corner, for a goal.
Less than two minutes later, the Knights countered, scoring in the same fashion.
Still neck-and-neck, McNamee has another opportunity with 34 minutes left, charging the keeper, with a defender running by her side. While this proved to be futile, it surely sent a message.
In the 14th through 17th minute marks, the Knights scored twice, by beating the final defenders and firing well placed shots to find the back of the net.
With 26:16 left, Gina Marinelli charged a breakaway, coming far out of the box, to kick it out of bounds. At 20:30, she does the same, but slides into a heroic dive, blocking the initial attack—the ball slipped out into the chaos, and there is an opportunity on a completely uncovered net.
With 11 minutes left in the first half, Danielle Griffin takes a well-passed ball down the right corner and sends an accurate, slotted cross in—with two Macs coming up to intercept. It was barely missed, but was a solid offensive effort, overall. Kelsey Caldarelli also responds to a similar ball, which was just tipped over the net by Neumann's keeper, at 38:29. The first half ended with 7 total shots on goal.
Similar to the first half, the Macs come out and score off a breakaway, at 46:04, with Jessica Gindle using solid footwork, to draw the keeper out. Furthermore, Gindle and Hannah Phillips seem to establish solid passing triangles throughout the next 20 minutes—as well as overall, offensive movement.
At the 64:18 mark, Gindle crosses the ball into the Knight's box, and Caldarelli one-times it to the low-right corner, for a goal.
At the 23:28 mark in the second half, Emily Guthier came out of the box to cut off a Knights breakaway to keep the Mighty Macs in striking distance.
With 11 minutes remaining in the contest , Neumann scored off of a breakaway to put the game out of reach.
In total, the Mighty Mac offense took 13 shots on the evening, with 11 of those being on frame.
The Immaculata women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, October 21st when they travel to Cabrini for one final time.
