Phillips Free Kick Carries Macs Home Victorious

IMMACULATA,Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team came out on top in a 2-1 victory over Delaware Valley University in a back and forth match up.

The Aggies got the scoring started early with a goal in the first four minutes of the contest, but they would be denied the rest of the way due to stellar defense in goal for the Mighty Macs from sophomore Gina Marinelli and freshman Emily Guthier. They combined for nine saves in the contest.

After the opener by DelVal, the Mighty Macs defensive unit was unstoppable, preventing the Aggies from tying up the contest, standing strong up until the final seconds as they wiped away a last second shot opportunity for the Aggies.

On the offensive end, freshman Bella Bonilla tallied her first collegiate goal from 35 yards out to tie the contest up in the 17th minute of play. The score would remain deadlocked at 1 until the 53rd minute. Hannah Phillips stepped up to take a free kick from 40 yards out, where she took matters into her own hands and provided a strong kick with her right foot into the top corner of the net.

The Mighty Macs as a team retained possession for most of the match which resulted in 15 of their 20 shots on goal, with Bonilla, Phillips, as well as seniors Kristen Guthier and Bridget McDonough, junior Nicole Winouski, sophomore Kelsey Caldarelli, freshman Samantha Seidito, Therese Weis and Bri Mantellino all tallying shots on goal in the contest.

The Immaculata women's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday, September 27th as they travel to Haverford College for a 4:00 start.
