SCRANTON, Pa. – The Immaculata women's lacrosse team claimed its first conference win of the season on Wednesday as they defeated Marywood 11-8 on the road. The Macs now improve to a 1-1 record in Atlantic East Conference play with a 5-7 record overall.
Kaitlyn Klitchko opened up the game for the Macs, scoring just over 40 seconds into the contest to give the Macs the early lead. After a quick goal in retaliation from the Pacers,
Jackie Murray scored two straight goals, giving the Macs a 3-1 lead. Both teams scored one additional goal on the first quarter, with the Macs' goal coming courtesy of
Tessa Liberatoscioli as the Macs owned a 4-2 lead after the first.
The Macs kept the Pacers scoreless in the first 14 minutes of the second quarter while scoring three goals of their own. Liberatoscioli added two goals while Murray added one. The Pacers scored one goal in the final minute of the half as the Macs owned a 7-3 lead at halftime.
The first ten minutes of the third quarter belonged to the Pacers as they scored three goals, cutting the Macs' lead to one at 7-6. The Mighty Macs, however, matched the Pacers' goal production in the final five minutes of the quarter as
Liza Laxton scored two goals and Liberatoscioli picked up her fourth of the game as the Macs maintained their four-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Marywood scored two goals over a six-minute span in the fourth quarter, coming to within two of Immaculata as the score stood at 10-8. Immaculata, however, kept Marywood scoreless for the remainder of the contest as
Ashley Hankin picked up a goal, securing an 11-8 victory for Immaculata.
Liberatoscioli led the Macs offense on the game, scoring four goals and two assists on 11 shots. Murray, meanwhile, picked up a hat trick with three goals on 10 shots (all on goal). Laxton also aided the Macs with two goals and two assists while Laxton and Hankin each tallied a goal as well.
As a team, the Mighty Macs recorded 40 shots on the day while keeping the Pacers to 15 shots.
The Mighty Macs will return to Draper Walsh Stadium on Saturday as they face off against Gwynedd Mercy.
