Win Streak Snapped in Baseball's Loss to TCNJ

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata baseball team dropped its home matchup against The College of New Jersey 9-5 on Tuesday, snapping the Macs' 11-game win streak. The Macs now drop to a 16-5 record overall on the season.
 
The Lions got on the board first, scoring three runs in the top of the first to take the early lead over the Mighty Macs.
 
After a quiet second and third inning, the Macs scored in the bottom of the fourth. Josh Crowding hit a double into left-center field, putting a runner on for the Macs. Louis Sharp then moved Crowding to third on a single. Crowding then scored on a throwing error from the pitcher, attempting to pick off Sharp, to put the Macs on the board.
 
TCNJ then scored two runs in the top of the fifth, increasing their lead to 5-1. They then scored an additional run in the top of the sixth and two runs in the top of the seventh, taking an 8-1 lead over Immaculata.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, the Macs loaded the bases with no outs. Steven Theisen walked while Frank Margiotta reached on a single and Jason Smiley got hit by a pitch. Joey Wright then hit a sacrifice fly into right field, scoring Theisen. Crowding then followed up with an infield single off the pitcher, scoring Margiotta. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Isaiah Payton walked, scoring Smiley as the Macs cut the Lions' lead to 8-4.
 
TCNJ regained a run in the top of the ninth, taking a 9-4 lead over Immaculata into the bottom of the ninth.
 
A leadoff double from Theisen kicked off the bottom of the ninth for the Macs. Margiotta then laced a bunt for a base hit down the third base line, moving Theisen to third. Theisen then scored on a double play ball from Smiley, but the Macs would be unable to continue their rally on the inning, dropping the contest 9-5.
 
Margiotta, Crowding, Sharp, and Theisen each recorded two hits on the day for the Macs. Theisen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and walk while Crowding went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
 
The Macs are next slated to host Cairn University on Wednesday at 3:30 P.M.
