IMMACULATA, Pa. – The No. 4 Immaculata women's lacrosse team punched their ticket to the Atlantic East Semifinals on Saturday as they defeated No. 5 Marywood 9-7 in the Atlantic East Quarterfinals.
The Mighty Macs took the lead five minutes into the contest as
Liza Laxton scored. The Pacers then tied the game up minutes later, but the Macs dominated for the remainder of the first quarter, scoring three goals in the final five minutes of action. Laxton picked up her second of the day while
Jackie Murray and
Tessa Liberatoscioli each scored as well.
The second quarter was a defensive battle as the Macs kept the Pacers scoreless for the entire quarter. Murray, meanwhile, picked up the lone goal on the quarter with two minutes on the clock as the Macs claimed a 5-1 lead at the half.
Following the half, Marywood broke the ice in the second half, scoring just over two minutes into the third quarter. Immaculata and Marywood exchanged goals on the quarter as Marywood edged Immaculata 4-3 on the period.
Erynn Kriebel scored her first of the day while Murray scored her third and Liberatoscioli picked up her second.
Moving into the fourth quarter with the score standing at 8-5, Liberatoscioli put the Macs on the board three minutes in to increase the Macs' lead. The Pacers, however, began to rally, scoring two goals in just over a minute of action to bring the game to within two at 9-7. The Mighty Macs defense then stepped up in a big way, keeping the Pacers scoreless with only one shot in the final nine minutes of action to secure the Macs' ticket to the Atlantic East Semifinals.
Jackie Murray led the Macs offense on the game, scoring a team-leading three goals on eight shots.
Tessa Liberatoscioli and
Liza Laxton each scored two goals for the Macs while
Erynn Kriebel and
Kaitlyn Klitchko each picked up a goal. Murray and Liberatoscioli each recorded four draw controls for the Macs while Liberatoscioli caused two turnovers on the game. As a team, the Macs outshout the Pacers 32-19 on the game.
With the victory, the Mighty Macs now advance to the Atlantic East Semifinals. The No. 4 Mighty Macs are scheduled to face No. 1 Cabrini on the road on Wednesday, May 4
th.
