RADNOR, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team dropped their first game of Atlantic East Tournament action on Friday as they fell 11-5 to No. 6 Marymount.
Following game one, which saw Marymount fall to Cabrini 8-0, Immaculata and Marymount faced off in game two of Pod B play.
Bryele Anthony led off the game for the Mighty Macs with a single. After advancing to third thanks to a throwing error, Anthony scored on a single from Kailtyn Carter to break the ice.
Cat Knoll and
Jess Oldham then hit back-to-back singles to load the bases for the Macs.
Sara Rode then stepped up to the plate and slapped a single into left field, scoring Carter to give the Macs a 2-0 lead.
Two home runs from Marymount spurred a four-run inning as Marymount claimed a 4-2 lead.
Katy Newton then led off the top of the second with a walk before scoring on a single from Carter to bring Immaculata to within one at 4-3. Marymount then scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, putting Immaculata into a 6-3 deficit.
The Mighty Macs sought to cut the Saints' lead in the top of the fourth. Newton and Anthony worked back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Later, Knoll reached base on a single to load the bases. Oldham then worked a walk of her own, scoring Newton.
Peyton McGowan then hit a two-out single scoring Anthony to bring the Macs to within one at 6-5.
The Saints, however, added three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to maintain their lead at 9-5. Later, in the bottom of the sixth, the Saints hit a two-run home run to increase their lead to 11-5 over the Macs.
The Mighty Macs were unable to work a comeback, dropping their contest against the Saints 11-5.
Bryele Anthony and
Kaitlyn Carter led the Macs offensively on the game, batting out of the one and two spots, respectively. Anthony went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk while Carter went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
The Mighty Macs will return to action sat 4:00 P.M. as they compete in game three of Pod B action against No. 1 Cabrini.
