IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team scored one run across two games as they dropped their doubleheader against Stockton on Thursday afternoon.
The Macs found themselves in an early hole as the Osprey scored three runs in the top of the first. Two innings later, the Osprey scored an additional run, claiming a 4-0 lead over the Mighty Macs.
Over the next two innings, Stockton added three runs, increasing its lead over Immaculata to 7-0. Stockton then scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, to secure a 9-0 lead over Immaculata.
The Mighty Macs attempted to rally in the bottom of the sixth, getting two baserunners on, but were unable to come back as the Osprey took game one in six innings with a 9-0 final score.
As a team, the Macs were limited to six hits on game one.
Kaitlyn Carter reached base twice for the Macs, going 1-for-1 with a single and a walk on the game.
After a quiet first inning in game two, the Stockton rallied in the top of the second, scoring five runs on the inning to take a lead in game two. During the bottom half of the inning,
Sara Rode reached base on a leadoff single for the Macs, later advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Cynthia Gordon and
Lauren Carboni then reached on a walk and a called catcher's interference, respectively, loading the bases for the Macs.
Katy Newton then picked up a walk, batting in Rode to put the Macs on the board.
The run would be the only Macs run on the game, however. Over the next three innings, the Osprey scored six runs on their way to a 1-01 decision over the Macs, securing the sweep.
Rode scored the Macs' lone run, going 2-for-3 on the game overall.
The Mighty Macs return to action on Friday as they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for an Atlantic East doubleheader.
