Softball Sweeps Gwynedd Mercy in Away Doubleheader

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Mighty Macs produced on all sides of the ball as softball swept Gwynedd Mercy in their doubleheader on Friday. The Macs won game one 8-0 before taking game two 5-4. Cat Knoll led the Macs offensively on the game, going 5-for-6 across both games.
 
Bryele Anthony led off game one with a single up the middle, putting a runner on early for the Macs. After advancing to third on a bunt from Kaitlyn Carter, Anthony scored on a single from Cat Knoll as the Macs claimed an early 1-0 lead.
 
Later, in the top of the third, Kaitlyn Carter reached base on an error to kick off the inning. Following a Knoll walk, the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Rode then grounded out, scoring Carter. Peyton McGowan then stepped up the plate, slapping a double into right center field to score Knoll. Emma Murphy then rounded out the inning for the Macs with a single into left field, scoring McGowan as the Macs took a 4-0 lead.
 
The Macs then doubled their lead in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on the inning. Kaitlyn Carter and Knoll both reached base with two outs. Jess Oldham then hit a single into left field, scoring Carter and moving Knoll to third. Rode then reached base on a throwing error as Oldham and Knoll scored. McGowan then hit her second RBI-double of the game, scoring Rode to cap of the Macs' 8-0 lead.
 
Emma Mercadante kept the Griffins to two hits over five innings for the Macs, leading the Mighty Macs to a five-inning complete game shutout. Mercadante struck out two batters on the game while walking zero batters.
 
Offensively, McGowan led the Macs on the game, going 3-for-3 with two doubles while recording one run and two RBI. McGowan also made several key plays on the day in the outfield, making several diving plays. Knoll, meanwhile, went 2-for-2, scoring two runs and one RBI.
 
The Macs kicked off game two in similar fashion to game one. Anthony reached on a leadoff error to start the game before stealing second base. Knoll then hit a single into right-center field, scoring Anthony as the Macs again took a 1-1 lead.
 
The Griffins tied the contest up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning before taking a 2-1 lead over the Macs in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Facing their first deficit of the day, the Mighty Macs rallied in the top of the fifth to regain the lead over the Griffins. Riece Onorato and Katy Newton reached base on back-to-back walks to kick off the inning for the Macs. Anthony and Kaitlyn Carter then hit back-to-back singles, scoring Kelly while Newton was thrown out at home. Knoll then stepped up and cleared the bases with a triple into right field before scoring a single from Rode as the Macs claimed a 5-2 lead over the Griffins.
 
The Griffins added two runs in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to recover from the deficit as the Macs secured the sweep with a 5-4 victory in game two.

Sarah Guido pitched a complete game in game two, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out one batter.
 
Knoll, meanwhile, led the Macs in game two, going 3-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI along with a triple.
 
The Mighty Macs now conclude their Atlantic East regular season schedule with a 6-6 record overall. The Macs will next travel to Albright for their final regular seasons contests on Monday.
