DAVENPORT, Fl . – The Immaculata baseball team kicked off their spring break week in fashion as the Mighty Macs defeated UMass-Dartmouth 18-2 on Sunday.
After allowing one run in the top of the first, the Mighty Macs scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double by
Joey Sacco as the Macs took an early 6-1 lead.
The Macs then added three additional runs in the second as
Joey Wright picked up an RBI-double before
Jay Lawrence batted in two Macs on a single. In the bottom of the third, the Macs added two additional runs on a fielder's choice by Wright and a sacrifice fly from
Hunter Hall, scoring Sacco and
Jason Smiley.
Up 11-1, the Macs put up a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth, increasing their lead to 16-1. After loading the bases, the Macs scored five runs in two hit batters, two walks, and a single.
UMass-Dartmouth scored their second run of the day in the top of the fifth on an RBI-double.
Joey Wright then neutralized the run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run. Then, in the bottom of the eight, a sacrifice fly from
Joey Steff scored
Joe Esposito as the Macs ran away with an 18-2 victory.
Wright went 3-for-5 on the game, scoring four runs and batting in five batters as he ended a triple away from the cycle.
Jason Smiley scored four runs on the day adding on one hit and two walks while
Josh Crowding went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Ryan Crowell earned his first win of the season, going five innings strong while allowing two runs on the game. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Monday as they face off against Ohio Northern.
