Softball Swept by Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Macs were unable to score runs as the Immaculata softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against Alvernia on Wednesday. The Macs dropped game one 11-2 before losing game two 9-1.

The Macs broke the ice quickly in game one as Bryele Anthony led off the game with a single down the left field line. After stealing second base, Anthony scored on a single from Kaitlyn Carter to give the Macs a 1-0 lead. Cat Knoll then earned a walk, moving Carter to second base. Carter later scored as Sara Rode reached base on an error by the left fielder, giving the Macs a 2-0 lead.

The Mighty Macs' lead quickly dissipated however as the Golden Wolves scored seven runs in the bottom half of the inning, putting the Macs in a 7-2 hole after the first.

Alvernia then scored one run in the bottom of the second before scoring three in the bottom of the third to claim an 11-2 advantage over Immaculata.

The Macs only managed seven hits on the game and would be unable to recuperate as the Golden Wolves claimed game one 11-2.

Bryele Anthony went 3-for-3 out of the leadoff spot on the game, scoring one run and recording a stolen base for the Macs.

Game two did not fair much better for the Mighty Macs. The Golden Wolves scored one run in the bottom of the first before going on another seven-run spree in the bottom of the second.

Alvernia then added an insurance run in the bottom of the third, taking a 9-0 lead over Immaculata.

The Macs then scored their sole run in the top of the fourth. Jess Oldham led off the inning by hitting a single into left center field. Elena Anglani then entered the game as a pinch runner for Oldham, advancing to third on a single from Maggie Wilkinson. Anglani then scored on a sacrifice fly to right field from Peyton McGowan. The Macs would remain scoreless for the rest of the contest as the Macs lost game two 9-1.

The Mighty Macs only managed four hits on the game, courtesy of Anthony, Rode, Oldham, and Wilkinson as Anglani scored the Macs' lone run on the game.

The Mighty Macs will return to action next on Saturday as they continue Atlantic East competition at home against Centenary.
