IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against Ursinus on Tuesday afternoon. Shortstop
Jess Oldham led the Macs offensively on the day, hitting five extra-base hits including a home run in game one.
The Macs got the ball rolling early in game one. After walks from
Bryele Anthony,
Kaitlyn Carter, and
Cat Knoll loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first, Oldham ripped a double into left field, scoring two runs and giving the Macs the lead. Knoll then scored on a wild pitch before Oldham scored on an RBI-single from
Sara Rode, giving the Macs a 4-0 lead after the first.
Ursinus scored one run in the top of the second, cutting into the Macs' lead. Oldham, however, erased the run in the bottom of the second, hitting a home run into right-center field, scoring Knoll and increasing the Macs' lead to 6-1.
Over the third and fourth innings, the Bears scored three runs, decreasing the Macs' lead to 6-4. Then, in the top of the fifth, the Bears tied the game up, scoring two runs on the inning.
The Bears then scored eight runs in the top of the sixth highlighted by a grand slam to take a 14-6 lead over the Macs. The Macs were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning as the Bears claimed game one 14-6.
Oldham went 3-for-3 on game one, scoring two runs and four RBI while hitting two doubles and a home run.
Cat Knoll, meanwhile, walked twice on the game, scoring two runs.
Ursinus led off game one by scoring one run in the top of the first. Immaculata responded in the bottom of the first. After
Bryele Anthony reached base on an error,
Cat Knoll batted her in on a groundout, tying the game up at 1-1.
The Bears then hit three home runs in the top of the third, scoring five runs on the inning to claim a 6-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Macs felt a sense of déjà vu as Anthony reached on an error before scoring on another groundout from Knoll.
A pair of runs in the fifth and seventh innings gave the Bears an 8-2 lead as the Macs approached the plate with their final set of outs.
Katy Newton, Anthony, and Rode hit three straight singles to start the inning, with Newton scoring on Rode's base hit. After a flyout, Oldham and
Alyssa Daly strung together singles of their own, scoring Anthony and Rode to bring the Macs to within three at 8-5. A line drive double play, however, cut the Macs' hopes short as the score finalized at 8-5.
Oldham continued her tear in game two, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBU. Rode and Daly, meanwhile, each went 2-for-4 as Rode scored one run and both recorded one RBI.
The Mighty Macs return to action tomorrow as they travel to Alvernia.
