GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Immaculata baseball team walked away with the victory in a high-scoring 18-11 matchup against Stockton on Tuesday.
Following two straight walks from
Frank Margiotta and
Jason Smiley to kick off the game,
Joey Wright slapped a double down the left field line, scoring the pair and giving the Macs a 2-2 lead. The Osprey were quick to respond in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game up at 2-2 after the first inning.
After two quiet frames, the Osprey scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to claim a 4-2 lead over the Macs. The Mighty Macs, however, responded in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs highlighted by a two-RBI single from
Louis Sharp, giving the Macs a 6-4 advantage. The Osprey then scored one run in the bottom of the fifth as the score stood 6-5 after the fifth.
The Macs then scored five runs in the top of the sixth, claiming a commanding 11-5 lead over the Opsrey. Wright and
Josh Crowding hit back-to-back doubles on the inning, scoring three runs for the Macs. The Osprey responded by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the Macs' lead to 11-7.
In the seventh inning, the Macs and Osprey exchanged three runs apiece, running the score of the game up to 14-10 as the Macs held onto a four-run advantage. Then, in the eighth, a sacrifice fly from Smiley followed by an RBI double from Wright increased the Macs' lead to 16-10.
The Osprey scored one run in the bottom of the eighth, though the run quickly dissipated as a two-run home run from
Isaiah Payton in the top of the ninth sealed the deal on an 18-11 victory for the Mighty Macs.
Payton went 2-for-3 on the day for the Macs, scoring three runs and two RBI while hitting a home run and walking for the Macs. Wright, meanwhile, went 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, recording six RBI on the game.
Maddox Stern, meanwhile, went 5-for-6 on the day, scoring four runs for the Mighty Macs.
The Macs will return to action tomorrow as they host Ursinus.
