Sacco Records 100th Hit as Macs Sweep Griffins

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Joey Sacco recorded his 100th career hit as the Mighty Macs secured a series sweep over Gwynedd Mercy with a 5-3 victory on Sunday. The Macs now improve to an 11-4 record on the season as well as a 3-0 conference record.

The Mighty Macs got on board quickly in the top of the first. Frank Margiotta hit a leadoff infield single to kick off the inning. Following a single from Joey Sacco and a walk from Joey Wright, Margiotta was on third when Louis Sharp hit a sacrifice fly into left field, scoring Margiotta to give the Macs a 1-0 lead.

The Girffins matched the Macs' production in the bottom half of the inning, however, as the score stood 1-1.

After a scoreless second inning, Sacco led off the top of the third with a single. Wright then reached on a fielder's choice during which a throwing error allowed Sacco and Wright to advance to third and second base, respectively. Josh Crowding then slung a sacrifice fly into center field, scoring Sacco and giving the Macs the lead. Louis Sharp then rounded out the inning for the Macs, hitting an RBI-single into right field, scoring Wright and increasing the Macs' lead to 3-1.

With a one-run lead, the Macs looked to get some insurance runs in the top of the ninth. After back-to-back walks from Payton and Smiley kicked off the inning, Hunter Hall hit a single into left field, scoring Payton, giving the Macs a two-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
