Macs Score 26 Runs in Sweep Over Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – The offense scored 26 runs as the Immaculata softball team swept Neumann in Atlantic East play on Saturday. The Mighty Macs now improve to a 2-2 conference record on the season.
 
Kaitlyn Carter and Cat Knoll reached base in the top of the first with one out on back-to-back singles. Later in the inning, with two outs, the pair scored on back-to-back singles from Sara Rode and Alyssa Daly, giving the Macs an early 2-0 lead over the Knights.
 
Neumann then responded in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to tie the game at 2-2.
 
Kaitlyn Carter then led off the top of the third with a single into center field, advancing to third on a double from Knoll. Rode then hit an infield single, scoring Carter. After Rode stole second, Daly hit a two-RBI single to give the Macs a 5-2 advantage.
 
In the top of the fourth, Katy Newton led off with a single to the shortstop. Bryele Anthony then scored Newton on an RBI triple into center field, increasing the Macs' lead to 6-2.
 
The Macs looked to close out the game in the top of the fifth. Jess Oldham led off the inning with a triple into left field. She was then scored on a bunt single from Rode. After Daly and Hayley Evans reached on a single and walk, Anthony hit a two-RBI single to increase the Macs' lead. Knoll then hit a two-RBI single of her own, rounding out the Macs, scoring five runs on the inning.
 
Neumann scored one run in the bottom of the fifth but failed to recover as Immaculata claimed game one 11-3.
 
Emma Mercadante pitched all five innings for the Mighty Macs, allowing three runs on four hits. Mercadante also walked only one batter while striking out two. Offensively, the Macs were led by Anthony, Rode, and Daly, who each recorded three RBI while Knoll, Kaitlyn Carter, and Newton each scored twice.
 
The Macs got back to business right away in game one. Anthony hit a leadoff single, advancing to third following a stolen base and a throwing error. Anthony then scored on a groundout from Kaitlyn Carter to get the Macs on the board. After Jess Oldham and Sara Rode each reached base on errors, Peyton McGowan hit a double into left-center field, scoring both runners and giving the Macs a 3-0 lead.
 
Following a quiet second inning, the Macs looked to extend their lead in the top of the third. Oldham singled to leadoff the inning, advancing to second base on an error. Oldham then scored on a n RBI-single from Rode. After recording two outs, the Macs hit five straight singles, capped off by a two-RBI single from Knoll to give the Macs a 9-0 lead.
 
Neumann broke the ice in the bottom of the third, scoring on an RBI triple to make the score 9-1.
 
Rode then led off the top of the fourth with an infield single to second base. McGowan then followed up with a fielder's choice to second base with Rode advancing to second on an error by the second basemen. After a single from Riece Onorato loaded the bases, Newton batted in Rode on a fielder's choice. Later, with the bases loaded, Knoll hit a double into left field, scoring two for the Macs. Two straight singles from Oldham and Rode capped out the inning as the Macs increased their lead to 15-1.
 
The Knights added one run in the bottom of the fifth but could not rebound as the Macs took game two 15-2.
 
Sarah Guido pitched a five-inning complete game for the Macs, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out one Knights batter.
 
Knoll went 4-for-4 offensively on the game with four RBI and one double. Rode, meanwhile, scored three runs and two RBI while going 3-for-4 at the plate.
 
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Tuesday as they host Ursinus in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 P.M.
