IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team opened up Atlantic East Conference play on Sunday as they dropped their doubleheader against Marywood 6-0 and 12-3. The Macs now open up Atlantic East Conference play with an 0-2 conference record.
After two quiet frames to kick off game one, the Pacers broke the ice in the top of the third on a two-run home run. Then, in the top of the sixth, the Pacers tallied on four additional runs to give themselves a 6-0 lead over the Macs.
The Mighty Macs only managed four hits on the game, failing to score as the Pacers took game one 6-0.
Katy Newton recorded two of the Macs' hits on the game, going 2-for-3 overall.
The Pacers took the lead quickly in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first and three in the top of the second to own a 5-0 lead over the Macs. The Pacers then put up a six-spot in the third inning, putting the Macs in an 11-0 hole.
Looking to respond, the Macs had two runners on with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.
Sara Rode then hit a single into left field, scoring
Cat Knoll to put the Macs on the board. After a walk from Newton loaded the bases,
Bryele Anthony hit a single, batting in
Cynthia Gordon and Rode to cut the Pacer's lead to 11-3.
The Pacers then added an insurance run in the top of the fifth, owning a 12-3 lead. The Macs then went down quietly in the bottom of the fifth as the Pacers secured a 12-3 win.
Sara Rode went 2-for-2 at the plate on the game for the Macs, scoring one run and batting in one for the Macs.
Bryele Anthony earned the other two RBI on the game, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Thursday as they host Haverford in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 P.M.
