IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team split its doubleheader on Friday against Rosemont. The Macs dropped game one 3-2 before taking game two 8-7 in comeback fashion.
The Macs struck first in game one, hitting back-to-back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fist with the bases loaded.
Jess Oldham then batted in
Kaitlyn Carter on a fielder's choice, giving the Macs an early 1-0 lead.
Following a quiet second inning, the Macs threatened with runners on first and second in the bottom of the third.
Kristin Carter then stepped up to the plate and ripped single up the middle, scoring
Amanda Gallini, increasing the Macs' lead to 2-0.
After cruising through a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, the Macs were threatened in the top of the sixth. The Ravens scored three runs on the inning, usurping the Macs' lead in a 3-2 ballgame.
With six outs to work with the Macs would not be able to recuperate the lead as the Ravens claimed game one 3-2.
Kristin Carter took the loss on the game, going 5.1 innings while allowing three runs on eight hits while walking none.
Kristin Carter also went 1-for-2 at the plate, recording an RBI on the game for the Macs. Her sister
Kaitlyn Carter, meanwhile, went 2-for-4 on the game, accounting for the other run scored.
Rosemont struck first in game two, scoring a run in the top of the first to claim the lead. The Carter siblings both reached base in the bottom half of the inning. After moving into scoring position, the pair scored on a single from
Laurna Heathcott, giving the Macs a 2-1 lead.
Katy Newton then added to the Macs' lead in the bottom of the second. Newton reached on a bunt single with two outs before stealing second base.
Kaitlyn Carter then hit a single into right field, scoring Newton as the Macs' lead increased to 3-1.
The Ravens then took the lead in the top of the third, scoring four runs on the inning including a three-run home run. The Mighty Macs, however, tied the game back up at 5-5 in the bottom half of the inning.

Steph Kelly to tie the game for the Macs.
The Ravens then regained a two-run lead in the top of the fourth as the score stood 7-5.
Down by two going into the bottom of the sixth, the Macs came into the inning prepared to rally. Newton kicked off the inning with a bunt single before
Kaitlyn Carter and
Bryele Anthony both reached on a hit-by-pitch and a single. With the bases juiced,
Sara Rode drove a run in on a groundout to second base.
Cat Knoll then smacked a double into right-center field, scoring two runs to give the Macs an 8-7 lead.
Maggie Wilkinson pitched four innings in relief on the day, including the top of the seventh as she earned the victory for the Macs. Wilkinson allowed one hit on the game while striking out two batters.
Offensively,
Katy Newton led the Macs on the game, going 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
Kaitlyn Carter meanwhile went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI while
Riece Onorato went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The Mighty Macs return to action next on Sunday as they host Marywood to kick off Atlantic East Conference play. First pitch against the Pacers is scheduled to start at 12:00 P.M.
