Macs Come Back to Take Down Garnet

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Down 4-0 early on, the Immaculata baseball team rallied on Friday to claim a 10-6 victory over the Swarthmore Garnet. The Macs now improve to a 7-4 record on the year while the Garnet drop to 5-10.
 
A solo home run int the top of the third was the first action on the game as Swarthmore claimed the first lead of the contest. Swarthmore added three additional runs in the top of the fourth, scoring on a pair of singles to take a 4-0 lead over Immaculata.
 
The Mighty Macs then responded in a big way in the bottom of the fourth, kicking off the inning with six straight singles, scoring three runs in the process. The seventh batter of the inning, Joey Sacco, worked a walk, scoring Isaiah Payton to tie the game at 4-4. Later in the inning, Josh Crowding ripped a single into center field, scoring two to give the Macs a 6-4 advantage.
 
Ryan Struble then reached on a leadoff single to begin the bottom of the fifth. Jason Smiley then smoked a triple into left-center field, scoring Struble. Chris Javier hit a single later in the inning, scoring Smiley, increasing the Macs' lead to 8-4.
 
Following a scoreless sixth inning, the Macs looked to threaten in the bottom of the seventh. Frank Margiotta stepped to the plate with two runners on, hitting a single into right field to score Payton.  Joey sacco then ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Javier as the Macs sat with a comfortable 10-4 advantage.
 
The Garnet threatened in the top of the ninth, scoring two runs, but were unable to get back into the contest as the Macs secured a 10-6 victory.
 
Mason Keller earned the victory on the day for the Macs, pitching four shutout innings in relief while allowing two hits and striking out five. Isaiah Payton led the Macs on the game, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI while each Mighty Mac batter earned a hit on the day.
 
The Macs will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Haverford College.
