HAVERFORD, Pa. – The long-ball was driving as the Immaculata baseball team defeated Haverford 15-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
Joey Wright,
Jay Lawrence, and
Chris Javier all hit home runs on the day for the Macs.
All four of the Fords' runs on the day were scored on home runs. The Fords broke the ice in the bottom of the second, hitting a solo home run and taking a 1-0 lead.
The Mighty Macs responded in the top of the third. First,
Joey Wright ripped an RBI-single into left field, scoring
Frank Margiotta with one out. After advancing to third, Wright then scored on an error, giving the Macs a 2-1 lead.
After both him and Margiotta reached base in the top of the fourth,
Isaiah Payton scored on a wild pitch.
Joey Sacco then reached base in time to score on a three-run home run into left-center field from
Joey Wright as the Macs extended their lead to 6-1.
Jason Smiley and Payton both reached base in the top of the fifth via a walk and hit-by-pitch. Chirs Javier then stepped up to the plate and slapped a three-run home run of his own into left field, increasing the Macs' lead. The Macs were not don on the inning, however, as Margiotta and Sacco reached on a bunt single and double. After Wright loaded the bases on a walk, Margiotta scored on a sacrifice fly from
Josh Crowding. Sacco then scored on an error, rounding out the inning with an 11-1 lead in favor of the Macs.
Haverford then scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run, cutting into Immaculata's lead.
Joey Sacco then scored in the top of the seventh, once more on an error as
Louis Sharp hit an infield single to the shortstop. Sacco then scored on a throwing error by the shortstop to increase the Macs' lead. After reaching on a fielder's choice,
Maddox Stern scored in the top of the 8
th on an RBI-single from Margiotta, giving the Macs a 13-3 lead.
A solo home run in the bottom of the 8
th for the Fords made the score 13-4 going into the top of the ninth. After a leadoff single from
Joe Esposito,
Jay Lawrence neutralized the Fords' home run with one of his own, a two-run shot into right field, securing a 15-4 victory for the Macs.
Wright, Javier, and Lawrence each hit home runs on the day for the Macs while Wright reached base five times on the day, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three walks, two runs scored, and four RBI on the game. In the one and two holes, Margiotta and Sacco each went 3-for-5 on the game with a walk apiece, scoring three runs each on the day for the Mighty Macs.
On the mound,
Stephen DiBatista picked up another quality start, going six innings while allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six Haverford batters. DiBatista now improves to a 3-1 record on the season while Immaculata improves to an 8-4 record overall.
The Mighty Macs will next begin Atlantic East Conference competition on Friday as they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a 3:00 P.M. contest.
