Softball Swept by Widener

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team dropped its doubleheader against Widener on Wednesday by scores of 6-0 and 3-1.
 
In game one, Widener scored four runs in the top of the fourth, adding one run in the top of the fifth and top of the sixth innings on the day.
 
The Mighty Macs, meanwhile, were kept scoreless, recording three hits overall on the game. Cat Knoll went 2-for-3 at the plate while Katy Newton went 1-for-2 on the day. Bryele Anthony and Alyssa Daly each also reached base on walks.
 
Sarah Guido started game one for the Macs, allowing five runs over five innings of work inside the circle.
 
Game two remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when Widener scored on an RBI-single to claim the 1-0 lead. The Mighty Macs responded in the bottom half of the inning as Sara Rode ripped an RBI-single to score Amanda Gallini, breaking the ice for the Macs.
 
In the top of the fifth, Widener took the lead on an RBI-single, taking a 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh when they added on additional run.
 
The Mighty Macs threatened in the bottom of the seventh as Kristin Carter and Cat Knoll both reached base on walks, but the Macs could not score them as game two ended in a 3-1 loss for the Macs.
 
Rode led the Macs on the game offensively, going 2-for-3 with one RBI on the game. Inside the circle, Emma Mercadante pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out two batters on the game.
 
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Friday when they host Rosemont.
