IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata baseball team defeated the Alvernia Golden Wolves 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Mighty Macs improve to 6-4 on the season while the Golden Wolves drop to 4-9-1.
Joey Wright kicked off the scoring for the Macs in the bottom of the first, hitting a sacrifice fly to score
Frank Margiotta, giving the Macs a 1-0 lead.
Josh Crowding then stepped up to the plate, scoring
Joey Sacco on an RBI-single. Later in the inning,
Ricky Templeton hit an RBI-single scoring Crowding, and moving
Ryan Struble to third base. Struble then scored on a wild pitch, closing out a four-run inning for the Macs.
After a quiet second inning, the Macs scored two additional runs in the bottom of the third as
Louis Sharp and
Isaiah Payton both scored to give the Macs a 6-0 lead.
The Golden Wolves scored a run in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, slowly working their way back into the contest as the score stood 6-3 at the end of the seventh inning.
Struble then bunted in Crowding in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Macs an insurance run going into the ninth.
Derek Andrada then closed out his three-inning save with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth, securing a 7-3 victory for the Mighty Macs.
Stephen DiBatista threw well for the Macs on the day, picking up the win while hurling six innings of two-run baseball. He allowed seven runs on the day along with one walk while striking out four batters.
Josh Crowding led the Macs offensively on the game, going 4-for-5 on the day with two runs scored and one RBI on the day.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Friday as they host Swarthmore.
