NAPLES, Fl. – The Immaculata softball team continued its spring break schedule on Thursday as they dropped games against RIT and Kenyon. The Macs lost to the Tigers 10-9 before losing to the Ladies 15-0.
After a quiet first inning, the Tiger scored first in the bottom of the first, scoring one run on a sacrifice bunt.
The Macs then responded in the top of the third. Capitalizing on some misplays by the Tigers, the Macs scored five runs on the inning.
Emma Murphy recorded an RBI-single on the inning, scoring
Bryele Anthony. The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the Macs' lead to 5-3.
In the top of the fourth,
Elena Anglani recorded a lead-off single as the Macs looked to increase their lead. After
Katy Newton reached base on a fielder's choice,
Kaitlyn Carter stepped up to the plate. Carter then hit a two-RBI single, giving the Macs a 7-3 advantage.
The Tigers scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings, cutting into the Macs' lead. They then scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, claiming an 8-7 lead over the Macs.
With the game on the line, the Macs found themselves down to their last out with runners on first and second. Carter then ripped a single, scoring Anglani to tie the game upa t 8-8. Anthony then reached on an error, scoring
Katy Newton to give the Macs a 9-8 lead.
The Macs would be unable to hold the lead, however, in the bottom half of the inning as the Tigers recorded a 10-9 walk-off victory.
Kaitlyn Carter led the Macs offensively on the game, going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Anglani and Newton, meanwhile, both scoring three runs on the day, combining for four hits overall.
The Macs' second game of the day did not go in the Macs' favor as they dropped it 15-0 to the Kenyon College Ladies.
Kenyon scored five runs in both the second and fourth innings, adding two runs in the first and three in the third as they claimed a 15-run lead. Meanwhile, Kenyon's pitching kept Immaculata to three hits on the game, preventing any scoring attempts by the Mighty Macs.
Sophomore
Jess Oldham led the Macs on the game with two hits, going 2-for-3 on the game.
Ellen Files recorded the Macs' other base hit in her sole at bat on the game.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Friday for their final set of spring break games against Albion and New Jersey City.
