Double Double-Double Spurs Macs Over Griffins

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Theresa Kearney and Abigail Lentowski both earned double-doubles as the Immaculata women's basketball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy 82-66 on the road on Wednesday evening. Kearney dropped 21 points and recorded 15 rebounds while Lentowski earned 13 points along with 10 rebounds.
 
The Mighty Macs jumped out to a quick lead, dropping eight points while keeping the Griffins scoreless for over four minutes to begin the contest. The Griffins then responded in kind, however, using the next few minutes to score 12 points and take a 12-10 lead., The Macs, however, responded over the final two minutes to regain a 17-14 lead heading into the second quarter.
 
The second quarter began similar to the first as the Mighty Macs went on a 13-3 run over the first five minutes of the quarter. Morgan Falcone led the Macs over the stretch with five points. After the Macs kept them scoreless for five straight minutes, however, the Griffins dominated the second half of the quarter, scoring 18 points to the Macs' two, forcing the Macs into halftime down 35-32.
 
At the half, the Macs outshot the Griffins from the field, going 12-for-32 (37.5%) versus the Griffins' 13-for-4- (32.5%). The first half was very much a team effort for the Mighty Macs as Reese Mullins led the team with six points while Meghan Ricker and Kearney recorded six each and Falcone contributed with five points.
 
Following the half, the Macs quickly regained their lead, scoring 19 points to the Griffins' four over the first six minutes of action in the third quarter, taking a 51-39 lead. The Griffins used the final four minutes of the third quarter to chip into the Macs' lead as the Macs held a 56-51 lead moving into the fourth quarter.
 
The fourth quarter belonged to the Mighty Macs as the Macs shut down any chance of the Griffins regaining a lead. In the first eight minutes, the Macs outshot the Griffins 20-9, claiming a 16-point lead. Letnowski recorded six points over the stretch while Erin Kelly dropped five points. Over the final two minutes, Kearney recorded five points, aiding the Macs in matching the Griffins' six points over the final stretch as they claimed the 82-66 victory.
 
Kearney led the Macs in both points and rebounds on the night, dropping 21 points and 15 rebounds while adding two assists and two steals on the night. Lentowski also recorded a double double on the night with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Kelly, Falcone, and Mullins each reavhed double dights in points for the Macs with 12, 10, and 10 points, respectively.
 
The victory puts the Mighty Macs at a 5-3 record in Atlantic East Conference play with four conference games remaining.
 
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Saturday as they host Neumann at 1:00 P.M.
