IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener on Wednesday 19-9 against Elizabethtown. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Klitchko led the Macs on the day with four goals scored.
After a quiet first five minutes of action in the first quarter, the Blue Jays scored two goals in the span of 15 seconds to take the early 2-0 lead. Klitchko then scored on an assist from
Erynn Kriebel to put the Macs on the board. The Blue Jays, however, scored five straight goals over the remainder of the quarter, claiming a 7-1 lead.
The Mighty Macs then scored a pair of goals to open up the second quarter. Klitchko scored the first while
Maddy Terry picked up the second goal.
Liza Laxton and
Theresa Arata earned assists on the goals. After a goal from the Blue Jays, Laxton found Klitchko again for her third goal of the game as the score stood 8-4 with five minutes remaining on the half. Both the Macs and Blue Jays then picked up goals in the final minute of the quarter as Klitchko earned her fourth goal of the day on an assist from
Ava Hoffman.
The Blue Jays then outscored the Macs 6-2 in the third quarter. Laxton picked up both goals for the Macs while
Jackie Murray and Klitchko each picked up assists.
Down by eight going into the fourth quarter, the Macs only managed two additional goals from Hoffman and Murray as they dropped the contest 19-9.
Klitchko led the Macs with nine goals on the game while Laxton led the team with three assists and added two goals.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Saturday as they host Eastern.
