RADNOR, Pa. – The Immaculata men's basketball team dropped their away contest against Cabrini 70-68 on Monday evening. The game went down to the wire as Cabrini scored with four seconds remaining to claim the victory.
The Mighty Macs found themselves behind quickly overall as the Cavaliers took a 23-6 lead eight minutes into action.
Tim Schultice then kicked off a rally for the Macs, starting a nine-point run with a layup as the Macs cut the Cavaliers' lead to 23-15. In the middle of the Macs' rally,
Tyler Tillery recorded his second block of the game, the 67
th block of his career. The block ties Tillery with Kyle Finklea for the most career blocked shots in Immaculata men's basketball history.
Cabrini and Immaculata began back-and-forth action over the final 10 minutes of the first half as Immaculata went 17-16 over the stretch as the score stood at 39-32 at the end of the first half. On the half, Immaculata led Cabrini in rebounds, claiming 23 rebounds to 16 for the Cavaliers with 17 of those rebounds being on the defensive side of the ball for the Macs.
Gregory Vlassopoulos led the Mighty Macs on both sides of the ball on the first half, scoring 10 points including three three-pointers while also recording five defensive rebounds for the Macs.
Asa Kitchen and
Brandon McCullough also added eight and six points, respectively, on the half for the Macs.
The Macs kicked off the second half with a bang, going on a 13-0 run over the first three minutes of action before the Cavaliers scored their first points on the half. McCullough found
Steven Dao for a layup to give the Macs a 40-39 lead before Dao returned the favor. The Macs capped off the rally with a six-point lead as the score stood at 45-39. The Cavaliers then utilized the next ten minutes of action to go on a 23-13 run of their own as regained a 62-58 lead over the Macs.
Less than two minutes later, with five minutes remaining in regulation, Dylan Crew dropped a three-pointer to tie the game up at 64-64.
Tyler Tillery converted on two free throws to give the Macs a 68-66 advantage with 2:52 remaining. The Cavaliers, however, recorded four points in the final minute of play as they claimed the 70-68 victory.
Brandon McCullough led the Macs in action with 19 points on the night with four assists along with one rebound, steal, and block on the night.
Keith Farmer, meanwhile, recorded a team-leading nine rebounds on the night while Kitchen also chimed in with 12 points and two rebounds.
The Mighty Macs will have their chance to even the score with the Cavaliers on Wednesday as they host them for the second half of their conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 P.M.
