IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's tennis team returned to the court on Sunday morning for the first time since it captured its second consecutive Atlantic East Championship in May 2021. Immaculata opened its fall slate with a battle against non-league foe Rutgers-Camden, Immaculata battled throughout the afternoon but fell to Rutgers-Camden by a final score of 9-0.
By a pre-match agreement between the coaching staffs, both the singles and doubles matches were played as Pro sets.
In first doubles,
Annamarie Degnan and
Pamela Kontaras teamed and fell by a final of 8-0 while Jess Dougherty and
Kelly O'Brien dropped their second doubles match by an 8-1 final with
Audrey Keen and
Jenna Muttik falling by an 8-2 final in third doubles action, which allowed Rutgers-Camden to take an early 3-0 lead in the match.
In singles action, Degnan made her first singles debut falling by a final of 8-0 in her match.In second singles, Dougherty fell by a final of 8-3 while O'Brien dropped her third singles match by a final of 8-2.
In fourth singles, Kontaras dropped her match by a final of 8-6. In fifth singles, Muttik fell by a final of 8-4 while Keen dropped her sixth singles match by a final of 8-2.
Immaculata will be back in action on September 30
th on the road at Penn State-Harrisburg with that contest set to begin at 4 p.m.
