Baseball Falls to Marymount on Senior Day

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata baseball team returned home on Saturday afternoon to host Marymount in a doubleheader in search of a victory to improve its positioning in the race for the Atlantic East Regular Season Crown. Marymount opened the scoring early in both ends of the doubleheader to cruise to a pair of victories over the Macs by finals of 12-4 and 20-1.

Prior to the first game of the doubleheader, Immaculata honored its eight-player senior class of Brady Fidler, Greg Dahl, Tyler Kmiec, Greg Grandelli, Richard Fontanillas, Rich Bonczak, Chris Huyette, and Alejandro Monteverde.

Game One: Marymount 12 Immaculata 4

Mason Keller got the start for Immaculata lasting just 3.2 surrendering nine runs (just four earned) with eight hits and four walks while striking out five in the loss.
In the top of the first inning, Marymount took a page out of the Mighty Macs book from game one of the series jumping out to an early 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Immaculata threatened as its first two batters of the inning reached following a leadoff single by Joey Wright followed by a walk from Isaiah Payton but Marymount managed to work out of danger to keep Immaculata off the scoreboard and carry a 5-0 lead into the third inning.

In the top of the fourth, Marymount scored four runs to claim a 9-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Marymount added three more runs to its lead during the top of the fifth to claim a commanding 12-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Immaculata began its comeback effort as Frank Margiotta scored on an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 12-1 heading to the sixth.

In the home half of the seventh as Greg Dahl scored from first on a fielding error by the Saints right fielder to make the score 12-2. Joe Esposito followed this up with a two-RBI double to left center, which plated Tyler Kmiec and Giancarlo Palmieri to move the score to 12-4. Unfortunately this is as close as the Macs would get, falling by a final of 12-4.

Fidler, Stephen DiBatista, and Bonczak all made relief appearances for Immaculata in the game one setback as Fidler tossed 1.1 surrendering two runs on three hits while striking out three while DiBatista and Bonczak each worked scoreless innings.

Game Two: Marymount 20 Immaculata 1
Trevor Wagner got the start for Immaculata lasting just 2.1 surrendering nine runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out three in the loss.

Marymount raced out to an early lead once again in the second game of the afternoon via a two run home run to left field to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first.
In the top of the second, Marymount added five more runs to claim a commanding 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Dahl plated Fontanillas with an RBI groundout to second to cut the deficit to 7-1 heading into the third.

In the top of the third, Marymount capitalized on some Immaculata defensive miscues to extend its lead to 10-1.

In the fifth inning, Marymount tacked on four more runs to extend its lead to 14-1.

Ray Lutick entered in relief of Wagner and pitched 1.2 surrendering three runs on three hits while striking out before exiting in the fifth in favor of John McCunney. McCunney finished the fifth inning for the Macs surrendering two runs of his own on two hits while walking one and striking out a pair.

In the top of the sixth, Steven Lombardi entered and tossed a scoreless inning to keep the score at 14-1 heading to the home half of the sixth.
