Women's Lacrosse Falls to Marywood

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team returned to action on Wednesday evening opposite Marywood in an Atlantic East showdown with potential playoff implications. Immaculata battled throughout the contest but fell by a final of 19-8.
 
Marywood scored the first two goals of the game in the opening six minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. Immaculata countered with its first goal of the contest with 22:52 to play in the first half as Ashley Hankin found the back of the net on a feed to the crease from teammate Maura Murray to trim the deficit to 2-1. Marywood responded with two quick goals over the next 1:12 to claim a 4-1 lead with 21:36 to play.
 
Immaculata added another goal with 19:35 to play in the first half as Liza Laxton took a feed from Kaitlyn Klitchko to make the score 4-2 early in the first half. Marywood added another goal with 17:06 to play in the first half to extend its lead to 5-2. With 16:37 to play in the half, Klitchko scored a goal of her own to trim the deficit to just two once again making the score 5-3 near the midway point of the half.

With 11:55 to play in the first half, Marywood scored again to once again extend its lead to three goals (6-3) nearing the final 10 minutes of the opening half. The Pacers scored once again with 10:49 to play to claim a 7-3 lead, which prompted an Immaculata timeout. Marywood added another goal with 9:25 to play in the opening half to extend its lead to 8-3. The Pacers added another goal moments later to establish a 9-3 lead with 8:56 to play in the first half.
 
With 6:33 to play in the first half, Immaculata capitalized on a failed Marywood clear attempt to score its fourth goal of the contest as Laxton took a feed from Murray to make the score 9-4. Marywood added another goal with 2:00 to play in the first half to claim a 10-4 lead in the final moments of regulation. Marywood used this late goal to carry a 10-4 lead into the halftime break.
 
In the second half, Marywood opened the scoring quickly with its first goal of the second stanza just under 30 seconds in to take an 11-4 lead. Immaculata responded quickly with a goal of its own just a minute later as Murray took an assist from Molly Gallagher to make the score 11-5. Marywood responded just seconds later with a goal off a free-position to claim a 12-5 lead.
 
Marywood continued its strong start to the second half as the Pacers scored three more goals to claim a 15-5 with just over 20 minutes to play in the contest. With 14:50 to play in the contest, Klitchko scored to make the score 15-6 midway through the second half. Marywood responded with of its own with 11:26 to play to reclaim a 16-6 lead. The Pacers added another goal just moments later to take a 17-6 lead.
 
Marywood further extended its lead with eight minutes to play in regulation to lead 18-6 in the closing minutes of regulation. With just over five minutes to play, Maddy Terry scored off an assist from Murray to trim the deficit to 18-7. Marywood added another goal with just under 2:40 to play in regulation to extend its lead to 19-7. Immaculata added another goal with 40 seconds to play as Hankin found the back of the net to move the score to 19-8, which the Macs would go on to fall by.
 
In goal, junior Katie Mulvey battled throughout the evening making six saves in the setback while her counterpart Emily Dyminski made 10 big stops in the victory.
 
Despite the setback, Immaculata did end of the contest with a 25-14 edge in ground balls while also being successful on 19-of-21 clear attempts while forcing Marywood into 20 turnovers. Murray ended the match with a team-high six ground balls while Laxton and Courtney Floyd tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with three each in the setback.
 
Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday afternoon on the road at Gwynedd Mercy with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
