Hindle Hits Homer as Immaculata Drops DH to Cabrini

IMMACULATA, Pa. ­– It came down to the last pitch as the Immaculata Mighty Macs dropped their doubleheader on Monday against Cabrini University. The Mighty Macs lost the games 5-3 and 12-9 respectively while senior Keani Hindle went a combined 4-or-7 at the plate with a home run and five RBI.
 
The Mighty Macs got the ball rolling early in game one. After Sara Rode reached base on an error, Hindle hit a two-out RBI double, giving the Mighty Macs the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
 
After a quiet second inning, the Cavaliers got on the board in the third, scoring two runs on an RBI-double and, later, a throwing error, to give them the 2-1 lead.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, the Mighty Macs responded by scoring two runs of their own. First, Cat Knoll scored on a throwing error following a single from Hindle. Hindle would then score on an RBI-double from Paige Gerst as the Mighty Macs took a 3-2 lead.
 
In the top of the fourth, Cabrini tied the game up at 3-3 on a two-out RBI single.
 
The score remained 3-3 into the top of the sixth. The Cavaliers took a 5-3 lead in the inning, scoring on a fielder's choice bunt and an infield single.
 
Immaculata was unable to rally in the sixth and seventh innings as game one end in a 5-3 final score. Hindle and Gerst combined for three RBI out of the four and five-holes for Immaculata, each going 2-for-3 on the game.
 
Cabrini came out swinging in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first off an RBI-double and a sacrifice fly.
 
The Mighty Macs would tie the game up quickly, however. Following a single from Knoll, Hindle smacked a home run to left-center field.
 
After taking the lead 3-2 in the top of the second, Cabrini would hit a two-run home run of their own to increase their lead to 5-2.  
 
Sara Rode led off the bottom of the third with a lead-off single up the middle. After a single from Knoll put two runners on, Gerst hit a two-RBI single into right-center field to bring the Mighty Macs within one run of the Cavaliers.
 
Cabrini tacked on three additional runs in the top of the fourth, increasing their lead to 8-4.
 
Gerst hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead down to 8-5. The Mighty Macs had bases loaded with one out but were unable to convert on additional runs.
 
In the top of the sixth, Cabrini capitalized on defensive errors from Immaculata to increase their lead to 10-5.
 
The Mighty Macs loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth for Katy Newton. She reached base on an error, scoring Kaitlyn Carter. Maggie Wilkinson then scored on a bases-loaded walk from Knoll. In the next at bat, Hindle hit an RBI-single to score Rode, keeping the bases juiced. Sarah Reed earned an RBI of her own on a bases-loaded walk, Scoring Newton to bring the game to a 10-9 nail-biter.
 
Cabrini scored two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a ground out and a single, giving them a 12-9 lead.
 
The Mighty Macs had the game-tying run at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to capitalize and the Cavaliers finished their sweep 12-9.
 
Knoll went 4-for-4 during game two, scoring two runs and one RBI with one walk on the day.
 
The Mighty Macs will finish their series against Cabrini tomorrow with a doubleheader at Cabrini starting at 3:00 P.M.
