Oldham Has Monster Day as Mighty Macs Drop DH Versus Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Mighty Macs softball team dropped their doubleheader against Gwynedd Mercy today 15-11 and 8-6.
 
The Mighty Macs scored two runs in the top of the first. First, Elena Anglani scored on a single into left field from Cat Knoll. Knoll would then score on a single from Jess Oldham to give the Mighty Macs the 2-0 lead.
 
The Griffins cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning.
 
In the top of the third, Immaculata rallied. Keani Hindle kicked off the scoring on the inning for the Mighty Macs by batting in Knoll on an RBU-double into center field. Oldham then hit a double of her own into right-center field, scoring Hindle and moving Paige Gerst to third base. Carly Grandizio then smacked a bases-loaded infield single to score Gerst. Following a sacrifice fly from Alyssa Daly that scored Oldham, Knoll hit a single down the left field line, scoring Sara Rode and Grandizio to close out a six-run inning.
 
Gwynedd retaliated in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs to bring the Immaculata lead down to 8-6.
 
In the top of the fourth, Maggie Wilkinson hit an RBI-double into right-center field, scoring Oldham to increase Immaculata's lead to 9-6.
 
The Griffins then top the lead in the bottom of the fourth as they scored four runs on the inning, making it a 10-9 ballgame.
 
Oldham would then tie the game back up at 10-10 in the top of the fifth when she hit a single into left field, scoring Knoll.
 
Gwynedd Mercy then scored five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 15-10 lead.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Mighty Macs attempted to rally as Oldham it an RBI-single into right-center field to score Gerst before the game ended in a 15-11 final score.
 
Freshman Jess Oldham went 4-for-5 on the game for the Mighty Macs as she hit a double while scoring two runs and batting in four.
 
Oldham continued her success early into game one when she hit a home run into left-center field, scoring Gerst to give Immaculata the 2-0 lead in the top of the second.
 
In the bottom of the second, Gwynedd tied the game up at 2-2.
 
Oldham recorded two more RBI in the top of the third with a double into left-center field, scoring both Sarah Reed and Hindle to give the Mighty Macs a 4-2 lead.
 
In the third inning, Gwynedd tied the game at 4-4 before taking an 8-4 lead over the fourth and fifth innings, putting pressure on the Immaculata offense.
 
In the top of the seventh, Oldham recorded her fifth RBI on the game when she batted in Hindle on a double into left-center field. Nicole Deorzio then batted in Oldham on a single up the middle as Immaculata attempted to rally with two outs in the seventh before the game ended at 8-6.
 
Oldham went 3-for-4 on the game with two runs and five RBI. On the day, Oldham went 7-for-9 at the plate while scoring four runs and nine RBI with a home run and three doubles overall.
 
The Mighty Macs will return to action when they face Marywood in a rescheduled doubleheader on a date to be determined. An announcement regarding when the games will be made up is expected next week.
