Softball Drops Atlantic East Tournament Opener vs Wesley

DOVER, Del.- The Immaculata softball team took to the road on Friday morning for the opening game of the Atlantic East Tournament opposite top-seed Wesley. Immaculata struck first to claim an early lead but Wesley came back to win by a final of 5-2.

In the top of the first, Immaculata took an early lead as Sara Rode opened the game with a leadoff single, which would allow her to score via an error after a single by Keani Hindle later in the inning to give the Macs an early 1-0 lead.

Wesley answered quickly with two runs of its own during the home half of the first to claim a narrow 2-1 lead. During the home half of the third, Wesley doubled its lead, making the score 4-1 heading into the top of the fourth inning.

In the top of the sixth, Immaculata answered back with a run of its own as Hindle got the inning going with a double down the left field line, which allowed her to come around to score via an RBI single from freshman Jess Oldham to make the score 4-2 heading to the home half of the sixth.

In the home half of the sixth, Wesley answered back with another run of its own to extend its lead to 5-2 heading into the seventh inning.

Sarah Guido got the start in the circle for Immaculata, lasting five innings scattering eight hits and four runs (three earned) before exiting in favor of Kayley Peugh who pitched the final inning in relief scattering two hits and one run in the setback.

For Wesley, Dori Loukopoulos got the start in the circle going four innings in the victory surrendering just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight to earn the victory.

Immaculata will be back in action later today vs Neumann in a must-win game for the Macs beginning at 12:30 p.m.
