Immaculata Softball Drops Doubleheader Vs. Marywood

IMMACULATA, PA. – The Immaculata softball team dropped their first two games in their series against Marywood on Wednesday by scores of 6-2 and 7-5. The Mighty Macs now stand at 3-11 on the season.

Marywood took the lead early in game one. In the top of the second inning, the Pacers played small ball, loading the bases and advancing runners one at a time to take a 3-0 lead.

Later, Marywood would double their lead over the fourth and the fifth innings. They scored two runs in the top of the fourth run while adding the sixth run in the top of the fifth, giving them the 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mighty Macs broke the ice. After Paige Gerst reached base on a lead-off walk, Jess Oldham hit a single, moving Gerst to second. Later, Alyssa Daly moved both runners up on a single up the middle. With the bases loaded and two outs, Maggie Wilkinson hit into an error from the shortstop. Gerst scored on the play, putting the Mighty Macs on the board.

Down by five in the bottom of the seventh, Cat Knoll hit a one-out double into right center field, looking to start a rally. Next up to the plate, Gerst hit a single into right field. Knoll would score on the play, but that would be all the Mighty Macs get as they lost game one 6-2.

Gerst went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Mighty Macs in game one. She hit a double, earned a walk, scored one run and tallied one RBI on the game.

In game two, the Pacers took advantage of some early miscues by the Mighty Macs as they took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first.

Immaculata retaliated in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs on the inning. Sara Rode hit a lead-off single before moving to second base on a Riece Onorato walk. After a groundout from Knoll moved the runners up to second and third base, Gerst grounded out to score Rode. With two outs, Jess Oldham stepped up to the plate and smacked a home run into deep left field, cutting Marywood's lead down to 4-3.

After a quiet second inning, the Mighty Macs took the lead in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Gerst walked before Oldham hit a single up the middle, putting two runners on the basepath. Laurna Heathcott then hit a double into left center field, scoring both runners as Immaculata took a 5-4 lead over Marywood.

A lead-off home run by Marywood tied the game up in the top of the fourth. Later that inning, Marywood regained their lead over Immaculata on an RBI-single.
