DOVER, De. – The Mighty Macs softball team split their doubleheader against Wesley College Wolverines on Saturday. Immaculata lost game one of the series 11-3 before rebounding in game two to win 6-0.
Immaculata struck first against Wesley in the top of the fourth in game one.
Sara Rode kicked off the inning with a leadoff single. Rode then advanced to third on a single from
Keani Hindle. Following a stolen base from Hindle, two runners were in scoring position as
Cynthia Gordon stepped up to the plate. Gordon slapped a single, scoring both Rode and Hindle to give the Mighty Macs a 2-0 lead.
Wesley responded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 11 runs in the inning on eight hits.
In the top of the fifth,
Carly Grandizio hit a leadoff single, advancing to second base on the throw. Following a groundout which advanced her to third, Grandizio scored on a single from Rode, bringing the score to 11-3. The Mighty Macs could not score another run in the inning, however, as the game ended 11-3.
Rode and Hindle each went 2-for-3 on the game for Immaculata. Rode scored one run and one RBI while Hindle score one run and notched a stolen base.
The Mighty Macs rebounded in game two.
Katy Newton led off the game with a walk. She would then score on an error by the right fielder on a single by
Cat Knoll to give Immaculata the 1-0 lead.
Laurna Heathcott smacked a leadoff double.
Elena Anglani came in to pinch run or Heathcott and would score on a single by
Jess Oldham. Following a groundout and a walk by Grandizio and Newton, the bases were loaded for Rode. Rode hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Oldham to give the Mighty Macs a 3-0 lead.
The score remained 3-0 until the top of the third. Anglani reached base on a bunt single to leadoff the single. Oldham followed her up with a single of her own. Later, with two outs,
Renee Deangelis hit a single into left center field, scoring Anglani and advancing Oldham to third base. Then, Rode stepped up and smacked a triple, scoring both runners, solidifying Immaculata's lead to 6-0.
Sarah Guido took care of business in the circle during game two, throwing a complete game shutout. Guido allowed seven hits on the day, striking out five batters and walking none.
Rode hit three RBI on the game for Immaculata, going 1-for-4 with a triple.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on the road on Thursday, April 1
st as they face off against Cabrini in a doubleheader.
