Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls to Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (2-2, 1-1 Atlantic East) took to the road on Wednesday afternoon looking to extend its winning streak to three games and open Atlantic East play 2-0 against Conference foe Marymount (3-1, 2-0 Atlantic East). Immaculata briefly held a lead near the midway point of the first half but it was a late first half run by Marymount, which enabled the Saints to claim the 17-3 victory over Immaculata on Wednesday evening.

Marymount opened the game with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of play before Immaculata countered with a 3-0 run of its own thanks to goals from Kaitlyn Klitchko, Ashley Hankin, and Maddy Terry, which allowed Immaculata to hold a slim 3-2 lead with 20 minutes to play in the first half.

Marymount evened the score with another goal of its own with 19:04 to play in the opening half, which sparked a 7-0 run for the Saints as they carried a 10-3 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, Marymount stretched its lead to 15-3 in the first 13 minutes of the second half before the Mighty Mac defense stiffened. Over the final 17 minutes of play, Immaculata limited Marymount's opportunities offensively but the Saints did manage to score two more goals to extend their lead to 17-3, which would prove to be the final score of the match.

Reigning Atlantic East Defensive Player of the Week Katie Mulvey worked hard between the pipes for the Macs making seven saves to limit the Marymount offense in the midweek setback.  Junior Erynn Kriebel also turned in a solid performance on the defensive end as she led the Macs in ground balls and caused turnovers with five and three, respectively.

As a team, Immaculata was charged with 27 turnovers and was successful on just 12-of-21 of its clear attempts. However, Immaculata did manage to end the game even with Marymount in ground balls each team registered 26 over the course of the rain-filled afternoon. Immaculata also ended the contest with a narrow 12-10 edge in draw controls thanks in large part a game-high six wins by senior Molly Gallagher.

For Marymount, Emily Peters turned in a strong performance on Wednesday evening scoring a game-high six goals while the Saints goalie Mariel Russ battled throughout making four saves to keep the explosive Mighty Mac offense at bay.

Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at Cabrini with that contest set to begin at 1 p.m.
