RADNOR, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday afternoon looking to register its second Atlantic East victory on the season on the road against perennial power Cabrini. Cabrini emerged victorious over the Macs by a final of 20-4 to drop Immaculata to 1-2 in Atlantic East play.
In the first half, Cabrini scored three quick goals in the first six minutes of play to take an early 3-0 lead before Immaculata responded with a free-position goal from
Ashley Hankin to make the score 3-1 with 23:51 to play in the opening half. Cabrini and Immaculata traded goals over the next two minutes as
Kaitlyn Klitchko broke through with a free-position goal of her own, which trimmed the deficit to 4-2. From this point, Cabrini caught fire offensively ending the half on a 13-0 run, which gave them a 17-2 lead heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, Cabrini scored two more goals in the first six minutes of the half to extend its lead to 19-2 before Immaculata countered with a goal of its own as Hankin scored her second of the day on an assist from
Liza Laxton. Cabrini scored what would be its final goal of the afternoon with 15:21 to play before Immaculata scored the final goal of the contest with 50 seconds to play as Klitchko buried another free-position opportunity to make the score 20-4, which would prove to be the final score.
In goal,
Katie Mulvey worked hard once again making five saves to limit the Cabrini offense.
As a team, Cabrini ended the contest with a 35-12 edge in shots and a 16-7 advantage in ground balls. The Cavaliers also ended the contest with a 16-9 edge in draw controls and a +7 advtange in the turnover battle, in large part due to a defensive effort, which held Immaculata to being successful on just 8-of-16 clearing attempts.
Immaculata will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon at home against Neumann with that contest set to begin at 4 p.m.
