IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game against Ursinus on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs came from behind after a first half deficit but could not convert late in the game to secure the victory.
The Mighty Macs began the game with a 6-2 lead courtesy of
Brandon McCullough, who recorded three straight baskets to give the Macs the early lead. The Bears, however, countered as they took an 11-point lead over the next ten minutes as the Bears led 21-10 with under nine minutes remaining. The Macs attempted to rally back but could not close the gap as the score stood 32-22 at halftime.
At the half, the Macs were led offensively by
Keith Farmer, who recorded six points and seven rebounds on the half. As a team, the Macs shot 11-for-33 (36.7%) from the field on the half.
The Mighty Macs slowly chipped away at the Bears' lead throughout the second half. With 6:33 remaining, the Macs took their first lead of the half on a layup from
Gregory Vlassopoulos, taking a 54-53 lead. The score continued to bounce back-and-forth with the Macs holding a 64-62 lead with a little over two minutes to go.
Ursinus, however, would go 9-5 the rest of the way to secure a 73-69 victory over Immaculata. Immaculata outshot Ursinus 32-for-71 (45.1%) versus 29-for-73 (39.1%) from the field. Ursinus, however, took the edge in both three-pointers (7-for-30 versus 3-for-14) and from the charity stripe (8-for-11 versus 2-for-7).
The Macs were led offensively by
Brandon McCullough and
Keith Farmer on the match. McCullough scored 15 points on the match while Farmer scored 14 and recorded a team-leading 13 rebounds on the game.
Immaculata will return to action on Monday night as they host Misericordia for an 8:00 P.M. matchup at Alumnae Hall.
