IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's soccer team's efforts to defend their Atlantic East Championship title came to an end on Tuesday night as they were defeated 2-1 by Neumann in the Atlantic East Semifinals.
The first half was a battle for every inch on the field. In the 26
th minute,
EJ Martin scored Immaculata's lone goal on the day, a long shot from 30 yards out that took the Neumann keeper by surprise.
While Immaculata owned the 1-0 lead at halftime, Neumann led Immaculata 8-5 in shots taken.
In the second half, Neumann quickly tied the match up 1-1 as Chris Siemien scored three minutes in. The score stayed 1-1 with neither team allowing a goal-scoring opportunity until the 80
th minute. Then, Eddie Proud scored a goal to give Neumann the late 2-1 lead.
The Mighty Macs attempted to mount a counterattack in the final ten minutes but were unable to connect for the equalizer.
On the match, Neumann outshot Immaculata 18-16. The Mighty Macs were led offensively on the match by
Josh Fonder, who recorded four shots on the match. Fonder, Martin, and
John Bohrer each also recorded two shots on goal on the night.
