MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Immaculata softball team opened its Spring Trip to Myrtle Beach on Monday afternoon vs a former conference rival in the Keystone College Giants. Immaculata jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 13-5 victory over its former league rivals.
Michaela Petito opened the scoring for the Macs with a two-RBI double to left, which plated
Keani Hindle and Abby Carter before coming around to score herself following a poor throw by the catcher, which gave the Macs an early 3-0 cushion.
Keystone responded with a pair of runs of its own during the home half of the first to trim the deficit back to just one run (3-2) heading to the second inning.
In the second inning, Immaculata scored four more runs thanks in large part to a pair of infield errors by Keystone along with an RBI single from Petito to give the Macs a commanding 7-2 lead.
Mesey added two more runs via an RBI single to left, which scored Laura Dilucia and
Cat Knoll to give the Macs a 9-2 lead heading to the home half of the third.
In the home half of the third, Keystone responded with an RBI triple to trim the deficit to 9-3, which would remain the score until the sixth inning. In the sixth, Keystone scored two more runs thanks to a two-RBI double, which trimmed the deficit back to four making the score 9-5.
Immaculata responded with four more runs during the top of the seventh after an RBI fielder's choice from Hindle, a pair of RBI walks from Guido and Dilucia and another defensive miscue by the Giants on a hit by Fortuna as the Macs claimed a 13-5 lead heading to the home half of the seventh.
In the home half of the last,
Nicole Kowalski entered for the final three outs and recorded them quickly to lift Immaculata to the 13-5 victory.
Renee DeAngelis got the start in the circle and tossed 3.0 innings scattering five hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out one before exiting in favor of
Morgan Macrae who tossed a scoreless fourth inning.
Sarah Guido entered in relief for the fifth and sixth innings allowing two hits and a pair of runs while also striking out one before exiting in favor of Kowalski who closed out the victory for the Macs.
