MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- On the heels of a convincing 13-5 victory over Keystone earlier in the afternoon, the Immaculata softball team returned to the field for its second game of the day later in the afternoon vs Penn College. Immaculata used a big fifth inning to roll to the 7-1 victory over Penn College to improve to 3-1 on the year.
After a scoreless first three innings, Penn College broke through with the first runs of the game during the top of the fourth before Immaculata answered back with back-to-back doubles from
Michaela Petito and
Paige Gerst to even the score at 5-1.
In the fifth inning, Petito helped her own cause once again with a two-RBI single to score
Emily Mesey and
Sara Rode before coming around to score along with
Keani Hindle on a two-RBI single off the bat off
Cat Knoll later in the inning. Knoll would score on a fielders choice from Laura Dilucia before the inning was over, which gave Immaculata a commanding 6-1 lead heading to the top of the sixth.
After a scoreless top of the sixth, Petito added another run to the Macs impressive total with an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-1. The senior made shortwork of the Wildcats in the top of the seventh to help Immaculata earn the victory by a final of 7-1.
Petito was impressive in the circle scattering just five hits and one run while striking out nine while also turning in a 4-for-4, three RBI, and two run scored performance at the plate to help herself in the victory.
Immaculata will return to the field tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. to square off against Franciscan before facing Cairn at 11:30 in the second game of the day for the Macs.
