Softball Cruises Past Franciscan

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- After a pair of solid victories yesterday afternoon, the Immaculata softball team returned to action on Tuesday morning to take on Franciscan University. Immaculata scored seven runs in the seventh inning to cruise to a 10-1 victory in five innings.

Michaela Petito opened the second inning with a double before Cat Knoll followed this up with a double of her own to score her teammate and give the Macs an early 1-0 lead. Renee DeAngelis and Sarah Reed each worked walks to load the bases, which enabled Knoll to score on an RBI single from Abby Carter to stretch lead to 2-0. Sara Rode and Emily Mesey followed this up with RBI singles of their own before Keani Hindle registered an RBI on a fielders choice to give the Macs a commanding 5-0 lead. Petito followed this up with an RBI fielders choice of her own before Knoll recorded an RBI single to stretch the lead to 7-0 heading to the home half of the second.

In the home half of the second, Franciscan got one run back to make the score 7-1. Hindle responded quickly with an RBI double in the third to score Carter who had reached on an error earlier in the inning, thus, giving the Macs a commanding 8-1 lead. Hidnle's RBI double also lifted the junior over the 100-hit plateau for her career.

In the fifth, Hindle struck once again with a two-RBI double to center field, which plated Rode and Carter to give the Macs a 10-1 lead.

DeAngelis made short work of the Barons during the home half of the fifth allowing just one base runner to cruise to the 10-1, five-inning victory.

DeAngelis was effective for the Macs this afternoon to register her second victory in as many days tossing five innings scattering just three hits and one run while striking out a pair in the victory.

Carter and Rode each turned in 3-for-4 efforts with one RBI each while Carter scored three runs and Rode scored a pair of runs as well. Hindle was 2-for-4 on the afternoon with four RBI of her own to bolster the Mighty Mac offense in the victory.

Immaculata will be back in action later today vs another former league rival in Cairn.
