IMMACULATA, Pa.-After dropping a hard-fought battle to Swarthmore on Monday evening, the Immaculata women's lacrosse team returned to the field on Wednesday evening to take on non-league foe Delaware Valley. Immaculata opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the game en route to a 17-3 victory over the visiting Aggies.
Immaculata opened the scoring just seconds into the game following a successful opening draw control from
Layne Kennedy, which she would eventually convert into one of her three goals in the opening six minutes of the game to give the Macs an early 3-0 lead.
Maura Murray added a goal of her own with 21:15 to play in the opening half, which gave the Macs a commanding 4-0 lead and prompted an early Delaware Valley timeout.
Murray added another goal moments later off an assist from
Anna DiDonato following another failed clear by Delaware Valley to give the Macs a 5-0 lead. DiDonato registered a goal of her own seconds later off an assist from
Kayla Cadden, which extended Immaculata's lead to 6-0 with 17 minutes to play in the first half.
Kennedy continued her impressive first half as she recorded another goal just two minutes later to extend the Macs lead to 7-0. DiDonato registered another goal off a perfect feed from Cadden just moments later, which gave Immaculata a commanding 8-0 lead midway through the first period of play.
With 11:27 to play in the first half,
Mary McKinney added a goal of her own on a free-position attempt, which extend the Macs lead to 9-0. Delaware Valley would respond with its first goal of the game with just over 10 minutes to play in the opening half to trim the deficit to 9-1. Kennedy added another goal with 8:47 to play in the opening half to stake Immaculata to a 10-1 advantage. Kennedy added another goal off a perfect feed from Murray just a minute later, which gave Immaculata an 11-1 lead. Murray added another goal as time expired in the first half to give Immaculata a commanding 12-1 lead heading to the halftime break.
Immaculata opened the scoring just thirty seconds into the second half of play when Kennedy took a feed from Cadden to increase the lead to 13-1. Kennedy added another goal on an assist from DiDonato with just over 27 minutes to play in regulation to further extend the Mighty Mac lead. Delaware Valley responed with a goal of its own with just over 25 minutes to play in regulation, which cut the deficit to 14-2.
With 23:18 to play in regulation, Kennedy took another assist from Murray to extend the lead to 15-2 while also giving the senior the new single-game goal record as this was her ninth tally of the afternoon.
With 21:25 to play,
Nana Huang took a perfect assist across the crease from Murray to score her first goal of the contest and extend the lead to 16-2. With 11 minutes to play
Ashley Hankin registered a goal of her own to extend the lead to 17-2.
Delaware Valley added another goal in the closing moments of regulation to trim the deficit to 17-3, which would become the final score as the contest would remain scoreless through the closing minutes of regulation.
Kennedy was stellar for the Macs ending the contest with a new single-game record nine goals while
Maura Murray had a great evening as well contributing three goals and three assists for six points in the Macs victory over the Aggies.
Emily Schumann played well in goal making four saves while allowing just three goals in the victory, which also gave the senior her 400th-career save making her the second Mighty Mac in program history to eclipse the 400-save milestone.Â
Immaculata ended the contest with a solid 23-21 edge in ground balls behind a four ground ball performances from
Erynn Kriebel and DiDonato. Immaculata was also 8-of-9 on clear attempts while holding Delaware Valley to just 12-of-29 on clear attempts.
Delaware Valley also committed 27 turnovers to the Macs 17 in the setback on Wednesday afternoon.
Immaculata will be back in action next Tuesday evening at Elizabethtown with that contest set to begin at 4 p.m.
