Women's Lacrosse Drops Contest to Swarthmore on Monday

SWARTHMORE, Pa.- Immaculata dropped a 15-6 non-conference game to Swarthmore on Monday evening.

Kayla Cadden led the team with three points by tallying two goals and an assist while Maura Murray scored twice in the setback. Layne Kennedy and Anna DiDonato each scored once for the Mighty Macs (1-3). Mackenzie Frost and Sophie Peipher tallied four goals apiece to help the Garnet remain unbeaten (2-0).

Swarthmore's Frost started the scoring for the Garnet one minute into the game and gave the home team an early advantage. Immaculata got on the scoreboard and took the lead with two unanswered goals. DiDonato evened up the score off a pass from Kayla Cadden while Murray gave the Mighty Macs a 2-1 lead by finding the back of the net with 21:37 left in the half.

The Garnet regained the lead with two goals, but Layne Kennedy leveled the game at three with an unassisted goal at the 15-minute mark. Swarthmore closed the half by scoring five of the next six goals and led 8-4 at intermission. Kayla Cadden scored the lone Mighty Macs goal during the run by Swarthmore.

The Mighty Macs were very efficient by scoring on four of their six shots in the half, but was outshot 17-6 in the frame.

Swarthmore turned up the pressure in the second half and scored seven unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. Murray ended the drought for the Mighty Macs with her second goal of the season, but the Garnet hold on for the comfortable win. Cadden scored the last goal of the contest for her second of the game.  

The Garnet held a 16-8 ground ball advantage while Emily Schumann made 12 saves in net for Immaculata.

Immaculata returns to Draper Walsh Stadium on Wednesday to face Delaware Valley at 4 p.m.
