Wagner's Complete Game Shutout Helps Baseball Split against Del Val

FORT PIERCE, Fl- Immaculata split its double header against Delaware Valley on Wednesday afternoon in Florida. The Mighty Macs used a strong pitching performance to win game one 5-0 but the bats fell silent in game two and fell 3-1 to the Aggies.

Trevor Wagner earned his first win of the year with a complete game shutout against Del Val in the opener as the Mighty Macs registered 13 hits on the afternoon.

GAME 1

Wagner tossed a gem in game one, throwing a complete game shutout to lead the Mighty Macs to a 5-0 win over the Aggies. Wagner carried a perfect game into the fourth inning until Troy Lachenmayer singled, but Wagner cut the rally short with a pair of fly outs.

Kyle Bailey was matching Wagner for Del Val, allowing only three baserunners to reach scoring position through five innings, as the game remained scoreless heading into the sixth.

Wagner worked around a single in the sixth, setting up the Mighty Macs to take the lead in the bottom half. The offense finally answered the call and scored five runs on six hits in the inning. Isaiah Payton and Richard Fontanillas started the rally with back to back singles, as Payton scored the first run after Fontanillas stole second. Josh Crowding brought home Fontanillas with a sac fly while Joey Wright and Jason Smiley each had run scoring singles to give the Macs a comfortable 5-0 lead heading into the seventh.

Wagner capped the complete game with a punch out and finished the day  with six strikeouts and scattered four hits over seven scorless innings. Wright was the lone player to get multiple hits in the opener and went 2-for-3 with an RBI as Smiley went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI's from the leadoff spot.

Neither team put too much pressure on the starters as the teams were deadlocked at zero until the fourth inning. Del Val scratched a run across in the fifth off a sac fly and led 1-0 heading into the sixth.

Jason Smiley jumpstarted Immaculata in the sixth inning and doubled to start the frame. Following a single, Smiley scored after a sac fly from Fontanillas.

Chris Huyette entered the game in the sixth and the Aggies scored two runs on two hits to take a 3-1 lead entering the ninth.
