MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- Immaculata softball began its third day in Myrtle Beach with a showdown against another talented foe in Iowa Wesleyan. The two teams engaged in a pitching duel but it was an RBI single by Abby Carter in the fifth, which lifted Immaculata to a slim 1-0 victory on Wednesday morning.
After four scoreless innings to begin the game, Abby Carter broke the tie with an RBI single, which plated
Katy Newton to score the only run of the contest and give the Mighty Macs their first lead of the afternoon.
Iowa Wesleyan showed fight in the bottom of the seventh inning placing runners on the corners following a one-out triple but Michaela Petitio worked around the runners getting an easy popup to third base before striking out the final batter of the game to record the 1-0 victory.
Petito was strong through the morning scattering just five hits over her seven innings of work while striking out 10 to lift Immaculata to the victory.
Immaculata will be back in action later this evening against Eureka College with that contest set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
