Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Susquehanna

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Mighty Macs had a strong start to the contest but fell 18-9 in its home opener against Susquehanna on Wednesday night.

Steve Long led the team with seven points by sscoring three goals while racking up four assists. Anthony Inserra also tallied three goals while David Azzarano recorded two points with a goal and an assist for Immaculata (1-3).

Susquehanna got on the board first as Jack Harper scored on an assist by Logan Frank to give the River Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

Inserra answered for the Mighty Macs and found the back of the net off a pass from Long to even the score at one with 10:54 left in the first quarter.

The River Hawks scored a pair of unanswered goals and led 3-1. For the remainder of the quarter, the two teams traded goals as Susquehanna led 6-4 after the first 15 minutes of play. Steve Long found the back of the net once and assisted on both of Inserra's goals during the run by both teams.

The River Hawks took control of the game in the second by scoring six unanswered goals in the quarter to take a 12-4 lead heading into intermission.

Immaculata trimmed into the lead in the third quarter and outscored Susquehanna 2-1 in the frame. Sean Evans scored his first goal of the game and Long shot a laser with 11 seconds left to make it 13-6 heading into the fourth.

The Mighty Macs would score the first goal of the fourth when Azzarano found Long for the goal, making it a six goal deficit. The River Hawks (2-6) proved to be too much and scored four unanswered goals to build the extra cushion in the final quarter.

Azzarano and Cole Metzger each scored in the final five minutes for the final 18-9 margin. The River Hawks out shot the Macs 42-24 in the contest and assisted on 12 of the 18 goals.

Immaculata will have another home game next week and will host Centenary at 6:30 p.m.
