Softball Tops Cairn; 3-1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- Following a 10-1 victory over Franciscan to start the day, the Immaculata softball team returned to action against former conference rival Cairn. Immaculata used a two-run first inning to roll to a 3-1 victory over Cairn to improve to 4-0 on the week.

Abby Carter scored the first run of the game off an RBI double from Sara Rode who would eventually come to score following some heads up base running to give the Macs a 2-0 lead.

This lead held up until the fourth inning when Cairn responded with a run of its own to trim the deficit to 2-1.

In the home half of the sixth, Cat Knoll continued her impressive day with an RBI single, which scored Emily Mesey to extend the Macs lead to 3-1 in the late stages of the contest.

Sarah Guido got the start in the circle and went six innings scattering just seven hits and one run while striking out three to earn the victory. Nicole Kowalski entered in relief of Guido for the seventh inning and slammed the door registering three quick outs to pick up the save and help Immaculata improve to 4-0 on the week.

Immaculata will be back in action tomorrow against Iowa Wesley and Eureka with those games beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
