Baseball Drops First Game of Florida Trip Against Kenyon

FORT PIERCE, Fl.- Immaculata dropped its first game of spring break on Tuesday morning, falling 15-7 against Kenyon.

Joey Wright blasted a grand slam for his first career home run while Isaiah Payton also hit his first career homer as a Mac in the setback. Josh Crowding turned in a 3-for-5 effort for Immaculata (5-5) and drove in one run.

The Mighty Macs took an early lead with a sacrifice fly from Crowding, plating Domenic Dellabarba to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead after one.

The score would remain constant until starter Gabe Hollenbach ran into trouble in the fifth inning. The Lords strung together six hits in the frame to score five runs to take a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Hollenbach couldn't escape the frame and finished with a line of 4.2 innings and five earned runs with three strikeouts.

Immaculata chipped into the lead in a big way in the bottom half, as Wright blasted a grand slam to put the Macs in front 6-5 after five. Crowding started the inning with a double, while Tim Dougherty Jr. and Trevor Wagner followed with a pair of walks to load the bases for Wright. Wright cashed in with the big fly to left center, moving his RBI total to five on the year.

Kenyon and Immaculata continued to see-saw in the next two frame as the Lords scored three runs in the top of the sixth, and added one in the seventh. The Macs turned to Isaiah Payton for the lift as he hit a two-run homer to make it 10-7 after seven innings.

The Lords punished the Immaculata bullpen with insurance runs and scored five runs in the final two innings to hold on for the 15-7 win. Kenyon (5-7) out hit Immaculata  16-10 in the contest and had six players record multi-hit games.

Immaculata looks to rebound from the first loss in Florida with a double header against Del Val starting at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
