Women's Lacrosse Falls to Susquehanna in Home-Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (0-2) returned home for its home-opener on Tuesday evening vs non-conference foe Susquehanna (1-1). Immaculata attempted to mount a comeback late but unfortunately, Susquehanna used an early run to hold on for the 16-9 victory over Immaculata.

Ashley Hankin opened the scoring for Immaculata just under one minute into the game off an assist from Maura Murray to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead. Susquehanna responded with a goal of its own with 27:25 to play in the half to even the score at 1-1.

The two teams would trade goals from this point as Layne Kennedy scored her first of six goals on the evening off a feed from Murray to give the Macs a quick lead once again before Susquehanna responded with a 3-0 run of its own before Maddy Terry snapped the run with just under 21 minutes to play in the half to trim the deficit to 4-3. From this point, Susquehanna went on a 6-0 run to close the half with a 10-3 lead before scoring the first three goals of the second half as well to claim a 13-3 advantage, which would be its largest lead of the contest.

Trailing 13-3, Kennedy scored a pair of goals in a thirty-second span to cut the deficit to 13-5 before Susquehanna answered with a goal of its own to regain a 14-5 lead. Immaculata would go on a 3-1 run from this point courtesy of goals from Kennedy, and Cadden with assists credited to Murray and Cadden on two of these three goals, as the Macs trimmed the deficit to 15-8 with 4:41 to play. Immaculata and Susquehanna traded goals over the final four minutes of action as Kennedy added one more goal off an assist from Anna DiDonato with just over two minutes to play in the 16-9 setback to open the Macs home slate.

Kennedy and Murray led the way for Immaculata offensively in this contest as Kennedy scored six goals for the Macs while Murray contributed four assists. Kayla Cadden, Maddy Terry, and Ashley Hankin all also registered goals this evening for Immaculata while Cadden also registered a pair of assists to go along with one helper from DiDonato in the setback.

Emily Schumann got the start between the pipes for Immaculata making 10 saves in the setback while Libby Dex and Emmaleen Regan split the time in goal for Susquehanna making four saves and three saves, respectively in the victory.

Susquehanna ended the contest with a 32-23 edge in shots while also ending the game with a 26-16 edge in shots on goal. Susquehanna was also an impressive of 19-of-22 on clear attempts while Immacualta was 16-of-24 on its clear attempts. Immaculata did manage to end the contest with a 14-13 edge in draw controls while nearly winning the ground ball battle as the Riverhawks ended the game with a slim 29-28 edge in ground balls.

Immaculata will be back in action against Rosemont at home on Thursday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m.
